Para la ruta del “Pino de San Roque” nos trasladamos a la entrada del valle de La Fuenfría, en el entorno de los municipios de Cercedilla y los Molinos, uno de los pueblos más desconocidos y con más encanto de la zona.
Para Alcanzar el Pino de San Roque, casi a 2.000m de altitud, tendremos que ascender por la falda sur de La Peñota, a través de bosque de pino silvestre, hasta alcanzar los Campamentos de Los Molinos. Un espacio ahora en desuso pero que ha albergado muchos campamentos durante el siglo pasado.
Pasado este punto, la ascensión será más pronunciada hasta llegar al Pino, árbol singular del entorno, que aparece hasta en el escudo del pueblo de Los Molinos. Conoceremos esta y otras historias de este árbol singular y del entorno mágico en el que nos encontramos.
En el descenso buscaremos los vestigios que dejó en este entorno la guerra civil.

El Pino Solitario crece, como su nombre indica, aislado en el extremo oriental de la solana de La Peñota. El Pino de San Roque es uno de los árboles monumentales más singular de la Sierra de Guadarrama. Considerado por muchos como el pino silvestre más enorme de cuantos crecen en nuestra geografía, este monumental pino alcanza los 20 metros de altura y unos 18 metros de perímetro de copa, con un diámetro de tronco de unos 6 metros. Su edad se estima entre 350 y 400 años, siendo el superviviente de un incendio que asoló en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX toda la arboleda que poblaba la solana de La Peñota.

Una de las rutas más viables para regresar, es la del Collado del Rey tomando de nuevo la pista forestal de la Calle Alta, si la seguimos durante 1,6km accederemos a la Vereda de los Poyalejos que tomamos en la subida.
